Shri aka Shrikanth Sriram is a British Asian multi-instrumentalist/musician/producer. Specialized in acoustic, electric and computing based live performances, what makes Shri stand out is his ability to blend traditional Indian instruments into his music. Rooting from a musical family, Shiri was born in Bangalore, and grew up in Mumbai. Siri started learning classical tabla at an early age, and trained for almost 14 years at Pandit Nikhil Ghosh’s school in Mumbai. Tired with classical Shri went on to teach himself bass, guitar and flute. Shri has worked with the INDUS CREED, one of India’s first and finest rock bands and Azure Hades, another band in which he played bass. Later in the 90s Shri moved to London, where he collaborated with Asian acts like Talvin Singh, Nitin Sawhney and DJ Badmarsh. Shri has toured for 5 years with Sawhney, which made way in 1997 to Shri’s first solo album, “Drum the Bass” produced by Sawhney and released by London-based label Outcaste Records. He has released almost 18 albums since then. Shri now works with ShriLektric – the brainchild of Shri Sriram. It is a concept that revolves around creating music on stage – note after note, with no backing tracks, no samples, just Shri and his battalion of loopers, effects and computers taking the crowd on a soul searching, adrenaline pumping ride. - The official Indian promo song for the release of Ang Lee’s Oscar winning blockbuster movie “Life Of Pi”, which was produced by Shri, and composed by Shri and K.C Loy, featuring the voice of Suraj Jagan.
- Google Chrome’s latest advert Tanjore Beats, which won the Gold & Silver awards at the Goan film festival, and was short-listed for the CLIO 2012 awards for Best Original music and was also short-listed for the Cannes Lions awards!
He was also part of MTV’s musical TV series Dewarists which was short-listed for Cannes 2012!
Shri has composed and written for theatre, dance and Indian feature films, and he has composed music for ads like British Petroleum & Pantene Pro-V, and TV shows like CSI, Top Gear. He has performed live at Glastonbury Festival, Jools Holland, Montreux & London Jazz Festivals and has remixed tracks for Dela Soul, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Kronos Quartet & Asha Bhosle, to mention a few. Shri has also collaborated with Norwegian keyboardist Bugge Wesseltoft, Double Bass legend Arild Andersen and is working on a cutting-edge new EP project with producer Jagz Kooner.
